Showcasing films for health at the Women Deliver 2023 Conference: Arts & Film Festival
WHO is proud to screen winning and officially selected films from the Health for All Film Festival (HAFF) at the upcoming Women Deliver 2023 Conference in Kigali, Rwanda.
The programme will be presented by Dr Pascale Allotey, WHO’s Director of the Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research (SRH), including the UN Special Programme HRP. It showcases the 2023 winner of the HAFF Special Prize for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR): "Vulvo and Dynia".
- Vulvo & Dynia (HAFF 2023 SRH Prize winner)
- When Climate Change Turns Violent (HAFF 2023 Climate Change and Health winner)
- The Price of Thirst (HAFF 2023 Official selection in SRH)
- War & Grace (HAFF 2020 winner)
Women Deliver is a global advocacy network championing gender equality, health and rights, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
The Arts & Film Festival, hosted over three days at Women Deliver 2023, is designed to share stories and spark conversations related to the lives and well-being of girls and women around the world.
WHO's programme aims to demonstrate the power of films for health education on SRH thematics. For instance, one of the 2021 HAFF winning films has been used in Nigerian communities to raise awareness and discussions about FGM: "Efun (Flesh)" by Anita Abada.
The screening will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of HRP (the UNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction).
Since 1972, HRP has been at the forefront of research for SRHR. It is HRP’s mission to work on fundamental health and human rights issues that impact us all, but are much too often stigmatized or swept aside.
The call for stories on SRHR toward the 5th edition of the Health for All Film Festival will take place from 1 November 2023 to 31 January 2024. More information to come prior to this date on the HAFF website.
