Dr Hiroyoshi Endo

Biography

Hiroyoshi Endo is Professor Emeritus, Graduate School of Public Health, St.Luke’s International University in Tokyo. He worked for the Ministry of Health, Japanese Government from 1982 to 2009 and was involved in the policy making and implementation of various domestic and global health issues.

In the field of global health, he served as Director, Office of International Collaboration of the Ministry and Director-General, Bureaus of International Cooperation and General Management at the International Medical Centre of Japan. In the field of infectious diseases control, he experienced several outbreak control operations including SARS in 2003 as Director, Division of Infectious Disease Control of the Ministry.

During his service for the Ministry, he was seconded to WHO Western Pacific Regional Office as Medical Officer for EPI and to the headquarters as Director, Department of Neglected Tropical Diseases. He also worked for UNAIDS as External Relations Officer.

Upon retirement from the Ministry in 2009, he was elected as Professor and Chair, Department of International Affairs and Tropical Medicine at Tokyo Women’s Medical University. In 2017 he was appointed Dean, Graduate School of Public Health, St.Luke’s International University, Tokyo. He retired from this role in April 2021 and was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus.
