The World AIDS Day 2019 was commemorated on 4th December 2019 at the Grand People’s Study House in Pyongyang, DPRK.
Dr Choe Suk Hyon, Vice director, External Affairs Department, Ministry of Public Health, mentioned in her remarks that National HIV AIDS Programme continue to put more efforts to prevention of HIV AIDS transmission and analyzed home and global HIV/AIDS situation and called upon HIV health care workers and related social organizations to actively participate and fully do their responsibilities holding higher the banner of self-reliance and self-development as instructed by the Government.
And together with other UN partners particularly UNICEF and UNFPA, WHO country office in DPRK has attended the event and showed its collaboration and support in the National HIV AIDS Programme.
Dr Edwin Salvador, WHO representative, mentioned about a fast-track approach to ending HIV/AIDS which the WHO South-East Asia Region is focusing on the 90-90-90 targets by 2020 and shared some of the achievements according to WHO HIV report 2019. And also he commended the achievement of the MoPH to ensure DPRK maintains zero HIV status through preventive work and active HIV testing & screening programme and renewed WHO country office’s commitment.
The event of World AIS Day 2019 was broadcasted on central TV on the day and the related information was disseminated through central and provincial radios. And the national key newspapers and publications covered the news as well.
